Downloading directly inside the headset
The simplest route skips your PC entirely. Open the headset's built-in browser, sign in, go to the scene page, and use the download link. The Meta Quest browser saves to the headset's internal Download folder, the same place any browser download lands on Android. PICO's browser behaves the same way, writing to its own Download directory.
Two practical warnings. First, headset browsers are not great at multi-gigabyte transfers — a 25 GB file over a marginal Wi-Fi link can stall, and the browser gives you very little feedback when it does. If you are grabbing something large, wired transfer from a PC is more reliable. Second, watch your free space before you start; Horizon OS will let you begin a download it cannot finish.
Once the file is on the headset, you play it with a proper VR video player rather than the system gallery:
- SKYBOX VR Player — choose Local Files from the main menu. It lists video on internal storage, including the
DownloadandMoviesfolders. Set projection and stereo layout from the in-player settings if the auto-detect guesses wrong. - HereSphere — browse local storage from its file screen, or point it at an SMB share on your PC. Its per-file settings are saved, so once you have corrected the projection for a file it stays corrected.
If a player shows an empty folder list, it usually needs storage permission granted in the headset's app permission settings.
Downloading on a PC, then transferring
This is the reliable path for large files, and the one to use for a whole library.
Quest over USB-C. Download to your PC first. Plug the headset into the computer with a USB-C data cable — the charging-only cables sold with phone accessories will not work. Put the headset on, accept the Allow access to data prompt, and the Quest appears in Windows Explorer or Android File Transfer on macOS as an MTP device. Drag your files into the internal storage Movies folder. Create it if it is not already there; both SKYBOX and HereSphere scan it by default. A USB 3 port makes a real difference here — expect a 25 GB file to take a few minutes on USB 3 versus considerably longer on USB 2.
Quest wirelessly. Two good options. Run an SMB share on your PC and point HereSphere or SKYBOX at it, which lets you stream the file over your LAN without copying it at all — a solid choice if your headset storage is tight. Or use a local transfer app on both machines to push files across the network. Wireless is slower than USB-C but avoids the cable dance.
PICO. Enable File Transfer on the USB connection setting in the headset (on some builds this lives under developer settings), connect the cable, and PICO mounts as a drive. Copy into Movies on internal storage, same convention. Wireless transfer apps and SMB shares work identically to the Quest side, since both run Android underneath.
Storage cards. Neither the Quest 3 nor the PICO 4 accepts a microSD card, so internal capacity is your ceiling. That is what makes the resolution question below matter.
Picking the right file and resolution tier
The biggest file is not automatically the best experience. Every headset has a hardware video decoder with a hard ceiling, and a file above that ceiling either falls back to software decode — stuttering, hot device, dying battery — or refuses to play.

Treat the decode table as guidance rather than a spec sheet — ceilings shift with firmware and with the codec used.
For bandwidth context, the streaming ladder tiers run roughly 4K ≈ 40 Mbps, 6K ≈ 80 Mbps, and 8K ≈ 120 Mbps and up. Filenames, formats and fixing a bad guess
VR files are ordinary MP4 containers, usually H.264 or H.265 video. What makes them VR is the geometry, and that geometry is normally signalled in the filename because not every player reads the spatial metadata headers reliably.
- 180 or 360 — the projection. 180 is a hemisphere in front of you; 360 wraps all the way around. Most premium VR is 180 equirectangular.
- SBS or LR — side-by-side stereo: left eye on the left half of the frame, right eye on the right.
- TB or OU — top-and-bottom stereo, stacked vertically instead.
- MONO — one image for both eyes, no depth.

When a player guesses wrong you will know instantly. A flat rectangle floating in front of you means it has read the file as 2D — set projection to 180 equirectangular. Two images side by side that will not fuse into one means the stereo layout is wrong — switch between SBS and TB. A picture that wraps behind you and looks stretched means it is playing a 180 file as 360. In SKYBOX these controls are in the in-player settings panel; in HereSphere they are on the video settings menu, and it remembers your correction per file. Renaming the file to include the correct tags also helps, since most players parse the name before falling back to metadata.

Is downloading VR porn legal, and am I allowed to?
For adults 18 or over, downloading content you have paid to access, for your own private viewing, is standard practice and explicitly what member downloads are for. What is not permitted anywhere is redistributing those files — uploading, sharing or reselling them. Keep them on your own devices and you are fine.
Why is my download so slow?
Usually the transfer path rather than the server. Headset browsers over Wi-Fi are the slowest option; a VPN adds another hop; and a shared connection in the evening does the rest. Download on your PC over a wired connection, then move the file to the headset by USB-C. If a headset download stalls repeatedly, that is your answer.
Where do downloaded files go on a Quest?
Browser downloads land in the internal Download folder. Files you copy from a PC should go in Movies. SKYBOX and HereSphere both read either, but keeping your library in Movies makes it easier to find.
Can I download the same scene twice?
