Passthrough VR Porn Explained: Scenes in Your Own Room (2026 Guide)

Passthrough VR porn is the one format that changes what you see around the performer rather than how sharp she looks. Put the headset on, open a passthrough scene, and the filmed room is gone: the headset's cameras show your own room, and the performer is composited into it, in stereoscopic 3D, at the distance she was filmed. It is not a 360° video and it is not a hologram. It is a normal 180° VR scene with the background removed, played by a player that knows how to draw the camera feed behind her.

SexBabesVR started shipping passthrough versions of its 8K scenes in October 2026. This guide explains what the file is, which headsets and players can show it, how to switch it on, and, because the format is young, exactly what we have verified ourselves and what we are still testing.

What passthrough actually is

Every recent headset has outward-facing cameras. "Passthrough" is the mode where the headset shows you that camera feed instead of a virtual environment; the Quest 3 and PICO 4 Ultra do it in colour and in stereo, which is why the format only became interesting in the last two years. Mixed reality (MR) and AR porn describe the same experience: the performer appears in your real surroundings.

For that to work, the video has to tell the player which pixels are the performer and which are the room she was filmed in. There are three ways to do that:

  • Chroma key. The scene is shot in front of a green or black backdrop and the player keys the colour out live. Cheap to produce, but a backdrop limits what can be filmed, and edges around hair tend to glow.
  • Packed matte. The background is removed frame by frame in post, and the resulting transparency mask (the "alpha" matte) is packed into the same video frame, in the empty areas next to the picture. The player reads the mask from those areas and uses it as transparency. This is the method DeoVR documents and the one our files use.
  • Separate matte file. A second, low-resolution video carries only the mask and sits next to the main file. HereSphere added this in version 0.12.0 in January 2026.

Why pack the mask into the picture instead of using a real transparent video? Because the hardware video decoders in standalone headsets do not support an alpha channel. Packing the mask into a normal HEVC or H.264 frame is the only way to get transparency through a Quest's decoder at full resolution and frame rate.

Which headsets show it properly

  • Colour, stereo passthrough (the format at its best): Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro. The performer sits in a full-colour, correctly scaled room.
  • Colour, mono passthrough: PICO 4. Works, but the room itself has no depth, so she looks slightly pasted onto a flat photo of your space. The PICO 4 Ultra has stereo colour cameras and does better.
  • Monochrome passthrough: Quest 2 and Valve Index. The player can still draw the camera feed, but your room is grey and grainy. Usable as a curiosity, not the way to judge the format.
  • Apple Vision Pro: the hardware is ideal, the software is not there yet. DeoVR lists Vision Pro passthrough as "coming soon" and HereSphere's visionOS build is a TestFlight beta at the time of writing. See our Apple Vision Pro guide for the general situation on that headset.
  • PC VR over a cable (Quest Link, Virtual Desktop): DeoVR's passthrough does not work through Link. Play passthrough files on the headset itself, from a download or a stream.

Which players, and how to switch it on

DeoVR (free on the Quest store and on Steam) recognises a passthrough file by its name: a file carrying the alpha token in its filename is treated as a packed-matte video, and a passthrough toggle appears on the player's main panel. No settings to dig through; press the toggle and the room swaps. DeoVR's packed-matte mode is built for the fisheye projection, which is why our passthrough files use a fisheye layout rather than the equirectangular one of the normal scene.

HereSphere (paid, Quest and Steam) is more manual and more flexible. Open the video, then go to Advanced video settings → Environment, set Background to Passthrough and Mask to Alpha Packed. The same menu holds Chroma Key and, since 0.12.0, Alpha External for the separate-file method. If you have HereSphere set up the way our HereSphere settings guide describes, the only addition is that Environment step.

SKYBOX has no passthrough mode for video at the time of writing; it plays the passthrough file as a normal fisheye video with the matte visible in the corners. For what each player is good at beyond this one feature, see DeoVR vs HereSphere vs SKYBOX.

What our passthrough files are

Each passthrough release on SexBabesVR is its own scene page, next to the original scene and marked with a Passthrough badge. It carries the same 180° stereoscopic capture as the original, with the room removed frame by frame in post, and it downloads in 4K, 5K and 8K like every other scene. The original stays in the catalog unchanged; the passthrough version is an extra file for members who want it. The first one is National Stepsister Day (Passthrough) with Bella Rico and Isabella Della, and new ones join the passthrough VR porn category as they are finished. Because the matte is at the same resolution as the picture, the 8K file gives the cleanest edges around hair and hands, the place where passthrough lives or dies.

What we have verified, and what we are still testing

Verified: the file layout against DeoVR's and HereSphere's published documentation, the packed matte on a desktop preview, and the players' documented behaviour on the headsets listed above. Still testing in a headset, update to follow: whether both players switch passthrough on for a streamed file as reliably as for a downloaded one, whether DeoVR's free tier plays packed-matte files without a Premium subscription, and 10-bit playback on Quest. Until that update lands, treat download as the safe route and streaming as the convenient one.

Setup, step by step (Quest 3 with DeoVR)

  1. In the headset, enable passthrough for apps the first time you are asked (Settings → Privacy → allow the app to use the cameras). Without that permission the player can only draw a black background.
  2. Open the passthrough scene page in the Quest browser and download the file, or use the Watch in your VR headset row to hand it to DeoVR. Our download guide covers where downloads land on each headset.
  3. In DeoVR, open the file. Check that the projection reads fisheye and the stereo mode side-by-side; the filename sets both, but a player that was left on a manual override will ignore it.
  4. Press the passthrough toggle on the main panel. The filmed room disappears and your own appears behind her.
  5. Sit or stand where you were when you put the headset on. The performer is placed at the distance she was filmed, so if she looks too close or too far, move yourself, not the scale slider.

For HereSphere the steps are the same up to the file, then Environment → Background = Passthrough, Mask = Alpha Packed. For general Quest setup, start with how to watch VR porn on Quest 3.

Troubleshooting FAQ

I see red shapes in the corners of the picture.

You are watching the packed file in a player, or a mode, that does not read the matte. Those red areas are the transparency mask, parked in the unused corners of the fisheye frame. Switch passthrough on in DeoVR, or set Mask to Alpha Packed in HereSphere; in a player with no passthrough mode, open the normal version of the scene instead.

The background is black instead of my room.

The mask is working but the camera feed is not reaching the player. Check that the app has camera permission in the headset settings, that you are not playing through a PC link, and on older headsets that passthrough is available at all. A monochrome headset shows a grey room, not a black one.

There is a halo or a cut-out edge around her hair.

Some of that is the format: the mask is computed frame by frame, and fine hair against a busy background is its hardest case. Two things help: play the 8K file rather than 4K (the matte has four times the pixels), and sit in a room with even light, because the player blends the edge against whatever your cameras see.

It works from a download but not when I stream.

This is one of the combinations we are still testing. The players detect a packed-matte file by its name, and a streamed file reaches them through a different path than a local one. Download the scene for now; the update to this guide will say what streaming does on each player.

Does this work on Apple Vision Pro?

Not yet in a way we can recommend. The headset has the right cameras, but DeoVR lists Vision Pro passthrough as upcoming and HereSphere's visionOS build is still a beta. The normal 8K version of every scene plays on Vision Pro as described in our guide for it; the passthrough version will follow when a shipping player supports it.

Ready to try it

Open the passthrough category, download the 8K file to a Quest 3 or PICO 4 Ultra, and press the toggle. SexBabesVR shoots more than 700 exclusive scenes in native 8K stereoscopic 180°, and the passthrough versions are cut from those same masters, so the performer in your room is the same one you would see in hers. Everything else in the catalog, the 8K VR porn scenes included, plays the normal way on every headset.
